14th Air Force Commander Major General William "Bill" R. Looney III speaks of the prestige and history of the P-40E Tomahawk that stands behind him at the ceremonial unveiling, on April 17, 2001, of the replica aerial fighter. The monument is located at the headquarters of the 30th Space Wing at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. The P-40 "serves as, a monument, not to the aircraft but to the people of the original Flying Tigers, and as reminder to their modern-day counter-parts." The Warhawk memorial, funded by the 14th Air Force with Major General William R. Looney III in command, took three months from ground breaking to the dedication ceremony
