Summary
190528-N-YH603-1016 ARABIAN SEA (May 28, 2019) Sailors and Marines run on the flight deck of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) during The Murph Challenge workout. The Murph Challenge is named in memory of Navy Lt. (SEAL) Michael P. Murphy. Murphy was killed in action in Afghanistan during Operation Redwing in 2005 and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. The Murph Challenge has become a tradition among service members celebrating Memorial Day. Kearsarge is the flagship for the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group and, with the embarked 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
