Mark Miller, from Reading, Pa., attached to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU) adjusts his night vision goggle as he waits in an amphibious assault vehicle (AAV), aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48), to leave for a large-scale amphibious assault exercise during Talisman Saber 17. Talisman Saber is a biennial U.S.-Australia bilateral exercise held off the coast of Australia meant to achieve interoperability and strengthen the U.S.-Australia alliance.
