A Landing Craft Air Cushioned (LCAC) launched from the amphibious assault ship, USS Bataan (LHD-5), heads towards Red Beach, during the 50th Anniversary of the Chosin Reservoir Campaign, aboard Camp Pendleton, California. This fierce, bloody battle resulted in 15,000 allied casualties (most of them men of the 1ST Marine Division). 2,500 were killed in action, 5,000 were wounded in action, and 7,500 suffered severe frostbite and cold injuries. The enemy forces sustained 40,000 dead and thousands more were down with wounds and frostbite
