After Marines and sailors with 1st LAR and 3rd Bn., 3rd Marine Regiment cleared the area during Operation Highland Thunder, the ABP was able to establish a clear presence to protect and serve the population in Khan Neshin district. Marines and sailors of 1st LAR conducted counterinsurgency operations under the leadership of Regimental Combat Team 5, during their seven-month deployment in Khan Neshin.
