American Red Cross - Uniforms - When she is at work in her district, the Red Cross Public nurse wears the practical gray cotton crepe working uniform with regulation hat and cape. It is a uniform familiar and beloved in the homes of many villages in France where children hail her coming with joyuful excitement and mothers with quiet hope. A new public health service in our own country is that of the sanitary zones surrounding the camps and cantonments, established for the purpose of preventing contagion between the camps and civil communities. About 90 Red Cross nurses are engaged in these zones
