As Vandenberg Air Force Base launched another Minuteman III for the National Missile Defense (NMD) Program four Greenpeace activists were apprehended as their Zodiac inflatable boat washed ashore on one of the base's beaches. Two of the activists were treated for hypothermia and then taken into custody by the Kern County Sheriff's Department, for charges of trespassing on Federal Property and violation of the Endangered Species Act
