This visit marks the third stop of a 26-day Brazil Riverine humanitarian medical mission by five U.S. Navy and Air Forces physicians, a U.S. Navy nurse and their Brazilian counterparts deployed aboard the Brazilian navy hospital ship NAsH Doutor Montenegro (U16). The purpose of the mission is to exchange medical expertise, provide medical care to isolated communities along the Amazon River and serve as a capstone event for the U.S. Military Tropical Medicine Course.
