Coast Guard Cutter Forward conducts Africa Partnership Station (APS) mission
Summary
ATLANTIC OCEAN--Sub Lt. Osman Bangura, operations officer of the Sierra Leone Maritime Wing, watches as crew members on a commercial fishing boat write their names on a piece of paper during a joint U.S. and Sierra Leone law enforcement boarding in the Atlantic Ocean June 26, 2011.
Bangura and several Sierra Leone law enforcement officers sailed with the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Forward during a portion of the cutter's scheduled deployment in West Africa supporting the African Maritime Law Enforcement Partnership (AMLEP) mission, an operational branch of the Africa Partnership Station (APS). During the deployment, the Forward crew worked with the host nation law enforcement team to increase awareness and deter illegal fishing off the coast of West Africa.
