Col. Charles Klinge, commander, Fort Worth District,
Summary
Col. Charles Klinge, commander, Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, tours the Old Baker Pump Station Sept. 21 in Dallas. Built in 1932, it was part of early Dallas efforts to reduce neighborhood flooding by pumping water from low-lying areas behind the levees into the main Trinity River channel. New Baker Pump Station, center, built in 1975, will soon be joined by Baker III Pump Station at this site. After Baker III is built by the city under a Corps of Engineers-issued Section 408 permit Old Baker will be retired and may be converted into a museum.
