COMBAT OUTPOST SHIR GHAZAY, Helmand province, Afghanistan -- Lance Cpl. John McCoy of Ridgeberry, Penn., hammers away at a M88A2 Hercules recovery vehicle’s track. The 21-year-old tank mechanic with Alpha Company, 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division (Forward), is one of 18 mechanics with the unit who works day and night to keep the only tanks in Afghanistan operable and functioning correctly. McCoy is a 2008 graduate of Athens Area High School and is currently deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
