Divers, assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit

Divers, assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 2 and the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command; are brought back on surface after conducting a recovery dive in the Gulf of the St. Lawrence. A 50-person recovery team from JPAC; MDSU 2; and civilian mariners from the USNS Grapple (T-ARS 53); are conducting underwater excavations searching for five Americans that were lost when their PBY-5A aircraft crashed in November 1942. JPAC conducts global search; recovery and laboratory operations to identify unaccounted-for Americans from past conflicts in order to support the Department of Defense's personnel accounting efforts.
