During Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, General Tommy Franks, Commander US Central Command, MacDill AFB, Florida, shakes hands with a STAFF Sergeant from a deployed base in the Persian Gulf. General Franks was on a tour of the bases around the gulf, visiting the troops and passing on words of encouragement from President Bush. In response to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 at the New York World Trade Center and the Pentagon, President George W. Bush initiated Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in support of the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT), fighting terrorism abroad
