Lance Cpl. Christopher Merriman from Athens, Tennessee, with weapons platoon, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, was awarded the Hard Charger of the Day award aboard USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) Nov. 20, 2018. Merriman was instrumental to Fox Company's cold weather training in Iceland by finding innovative ways to light the stoves in a windy and rainy environment.
