Hanley, public affairs officer for Commander in CHIEF, Atlantic Fleet, stands by during a press conference several days after 47 crew members were killed in an explosion aboard the ship. The explosion occurred in the No. 2 16-inch gun turret as the Iowa was conducting routine gunnery exercises approximately 300 miles northeast of Puerto Rico on April 19th.
