MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – Soldiers with the Western Army Infantry Regiment, Japan Ground Self Defense Force, anchor a fast rope as fellow soldiers fast rope out of an MV-22 Osprey during fast rope training during exercise Iron Fist 2018, Jan. 23. When Fast roping, the first Soldiers out of the aircraft will immediately anchor the rope to improve stability for the following Soldiers. Iron Fist is an annual, bilateral training exercise where U.S. and Japanese service members train together and share techniques, tactics and procedures to improve their combined operational capabilities.
