Summary

Members of a Joint Honor Guard consisting of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines, prepare to perform a flag folding ceremony during a memorial service hosted by the Missing in America (MIA) Project at the Willamette National Cemetery in Happy Valley, Oregon, on Aug. 29, 2018. The purpose of the MIA Project is to locate, identify and inter the unclaimed cremated remains of American veterans through the joint efforts of private, state and federal organizations. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
