Summary
Members of the Edisto Natchez-Kusso Tribe play on the southern drum during a powwow with U.S. Army Specialist Nathan Creel, an animal care specialist assigned to the Charleston Veterinary Treatment Facility, at Mt. Dora, FL, March, 2016. Southern drums will often sing a lower-toned song for honor songs, powwow songs, flag songs, veteran songs and inter-tribal songs. Creel is one of over 19,000 Native Americans who serve under the Department of Defense. According to the 2011 National Military Strategy, the challenges the military faces requires a Joint Force that is flexible, agile and adaptive. This recognizes the unique character and diversity of our service members as a formidable advantage. (Courtesy photo)
