NAVAL SUPPORT FACILITY DEVESELU, Romania (June 4, 2019) - U.S. and Romania military officials spoke with several media outlets about the integration of the Terminal High Altitude Air Defense System (THAAD) at Naval Support Facility Deveselu (NSFD) June 4, 2019. Media were invited to see the THAAD system and speak with U.S. Army Soldiers about the capabilities and purpose for THAAD in Romania. The THAAD system and approximately 150 U.S. Army soldiers arrived to Romania in early May and is temporarily deployed here in support of NATO ballistic missile defense plans during a scheduled software and maintenance upgrades of the Aegis Ashore Ballistic Missile Defense System.
