On board the US Navy's nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70), an Antisubmarine Warfare SPECIALIST monitors Persian Gulf activities. Planes assigned to Carrier Air Wing One Four (CVW 14) launched from the flight deck of Carl Vinson in support of Operation DESERT STRIKE. The operation was designed to allow tactical missions by US and other coalition aircraft inside the borders of Iraq, in response to repeated Iraqi attacks in violation of UN Safe Zones
