Oregon vertical delivery operation
Summary
ILWACO, Wa. -- Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Beau Parkinson, an engineer from Station Cape Disappointment, drives a 47-foot motor life boat back to the station after a vertical delivery boarding with a Coast Guard Air Station Astoria MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew on the Columbia River near Astoria, Ore., Dec. 7, 2010.
Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment, situated at the mouth of the Columbia River, is the largest Coast Guard search and rescue station on the Northwest coast, with 57 crew members assigned and five search and rescue boats, all designed for operations in heavy surf.
