Romanian Minister of Defense Mihnea Motoc addressed ranks of Soldiers and top military leaders of nine countries during the opening ceremony of the Saber Guardian Training Exercise at the Romanian Land Force Combat Training Center (RLF-CTC) Cincu, Romania, July 21, 2016. The Soldiers will tconduct an influential multinational field training exercise (FTX) and a Combined Live Fire Exercise (CALFEX) to improve tactical proficiency. A multinational FTX is an exercise in which forces from various nations combine efforts to train commanders, staffs and individual units in basic, intermediate and advanced-level warfare skills. The objective of this partnership is to build multinational, regional and joint partnership capacity by enhancing mil-to-mil relationships, exchanging professional experiences, and improving interoperability between the land forces to provide mutual assurance and deter regional aggression. Saber Guardian 2016 is a multinational military exercise involving approximately 2,800 military personnel from nine nations including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Canada, Georgia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Ukraine and the U.S. The objectives of this exercise are to build multinational, regional and joint partnership capacity by enhancing military relationships, exchanging professional experiences, and improving interoperability between the land forces from the participating countries.
