Description: Payload bay (PLB) is illuminated by PLB-mounted floodlights. PLB equipment and experiments (front to back) include Shuttle Pallet Satellite (SPAS) 01, Materials Experiment Assembly (MEA) mounted on Office of Space and Terrestrial Applications (OSTA) 2 Mission Peculiar Equipment Support System (MPESS), spacecraft sunshield closed over thermal-covered airborne support equipment (ASE), and remote manipulator system (RMS) arm stowed on port side longeron. Get away special (GAS) canister mounted on starboard longeron and two of the six GAS canisters mounted on port side longeron appear in foreground. GAS canister lid is open on G305 - Space Ultraviolet Radiation Environment (SURE) instrument developed by the Naval Research Laboratory.
