Description: This photo, taken between Hawaii and Midway Island (28.5N, 167.0W) shows unusually strong upper level winds from the northwest. Evidence of these winds is seen in the elongated, sheared cirrus clouds. Ther polar jet stream, farther south than usual, bisects the photo with clouds (ascending air) on the equatorial side and relatively clear skies (descending air) to the north.
