Senior Drill Instructor Staff Sgt. Tory J. Armstrong, Platoon 3017, Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, explains his expectations to his recruits Jan. 10, 2015, on Parris Island, S.C. Armstrong, 25, is from Appleton, Wisc. A small group of drill instructors looked over the recruits during their in-processing, but these drill instructors will be with them every moment for the next 12 weeks. Lima Company is scheduled to graduate April 3, 2015.Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
