Summary
Sergeant Maj. Wesley Schaffer, sergeant major of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force South, and a native of Roanoke, Va., speaks to the Marines and Sailors of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force South during an all hands formation held aboard the future amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), Aug. 31, 2014. The formation was held for Gen. John Kelly, commander of U.S. Southern Command, who spoke to the significance of the work the Marines and Sailors have accomplished. The ship has been transiting around South America on her maiden transit, “America Visits the Americas,” making port visits with our partners in the region. During each port visit, the Marines and Sailors have participated in key leader engagements, theater security cooperation events and hosted distinguished guests for tours and formal receptions. This transit clearly demonstrates the unparalleled capabilities that the Navy-Marine Corps team brings to our nation and partners. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Donald Holbert/ Released)
