Spc. Caleb A. Roberts, center, earned the title "Soldier of the Year" at the Mississippi Army National Guard's 2013 Best Warrior Competition, held Feb. 18-22 at Camp McCain, Miss. Pictured with Roberts is Brig. Gen. Janson D. Boyles, commander of the 184th Sustainment Command, and Command Sgt. Maj. Perry T. Campbell Jr., the senior enlisted adviser of the 184th Sustainment Command. Roberts, a member of the Waynesboro-based Detachment 1, 3656th Maintenance Company, represented the 298th Support Battalion and the 184th Sustainment Command. Competing against five other soldiers, representing the top junior soldiers in the entire Mississippi Army National Guard, he faced a wide range of events designed to evaluate their Army aptitude. Events included a written test, Army Physical Fitness Test, M-4 rifle and M-9 pistol qualification, combat stress shoot, engagement skills trainer, land navigation, combative competition, obstacle course and Senior Noncommissioned Officer Interview Board.
