Description: Photographic documentation of Mission Specialist Michael Foale conducting the Solid Surface Combustion Experiment (SSCE) on the Space Shuttle Discovery's middeck during STS-63. The SSCE was designed to supply information on flame spread over solid fuel surfaces in the reduced-gravity environment of space by measuring the rate of spreading, the solid-phase temperature, and the gas-phase temperature of flames spreading over fuel beds.
