The first sections of an iconic World War II-era B-17
Summary
The first sections of an iconic World War II-era B-17 “Flying Fortress” bomber arrived at the Museum of Aviation at Robins on Aug. 20. The aircraft which had previously been on outdoor public display at Grissom Air Museum since 1961 was disassembled and is now being transported to the museum in sections. Upon restoration, the high-flying long-range bomber will rest on display inside a closed hangar for public viewing. The B-17 is a symbol of American airpower during World War II and an important aircraft in aviation and world history. (U. S. Air Force photo by Tommie Horton)
