U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Mark Huls, a Dental Officer with the 183d Wing’s Medical Group, Springfield, Ill. participates in a conference call at McCormick Place Convention Center in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Chicago, April 9, 2020. Huls is currently assigned to the State Unified Area Command-North (SUAC-N), which is a planning coordination cell assisting with the state’s response to COVID-19 in the Chicagoland and outlaying areas with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and other state agencies. Approximately 60 members of the Illinois Air National Guard were activated to support the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to temporarily convert part of the McCormick Place Convention Center into an Alternate Care Facility (ACF) for COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms who do not require intensive care in the Chicago area.
