U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Gage Gardiner, a rifleman with 2nd platoon, Company L, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, left, gets his wrist bandaged by the "village doctor" in Waratah village July 19. Gardiner wears a pink shirt simulating the role of a woman in the village. More than 40 Marines and Australians are currently participating in the mock community as a part of Talisman Saber 2013 to train service members to establish a successful relationship with a community not accustomed to foreign aid. More than 28,000 U.S. and Australian personnel are participating in Talisman Saber, designed to enhance multilateral collaboration in support of future combined operations, humanitarian assistance and natural disaster relief.
