U.S. Marine Corps Retired Cpl. Shelby Dawson, provides a first hand account of his action during the battle of Guam on July 26, 1944, during his Purple Heart ceremony on January 6, 2018 at St. Laurence Church in Southlake TX. The original Purple Heart, designated as the Badge of Military Merit, was established by George Washington, Commander in Chief of the Continental Army, on August 7, 1782.
