U.S. Marines with subordinate commands under III Marine
Summary
U.S. Marines with subordinate commands under III Marine Expeditionary Force, drop a rope off an UH-1Y Venom during Special Patrol Insertion and Extraction and Helicopter Rope Suspension Technique training on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 18, 2018. SPIE rigging, fast roping, and rappelling allow Marines to enter and exit landing zones that are too dangerous for helicopters to safely land on. SPIE and HRST training teach Marines proper knots and rappelling techniques, and builds confidence in maneuvering from air to ground. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Kenny Nunez)
