U.S. Navy Adm. John B. Nathman speaks at a Ceremony held for the dis-establishment of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet and Fleet Forces Command at Naval Station Norfolk, Va., on Oct. 31, 2006. The dis-establishment and renaming is part of a realignment of the functions of the two commands and streamlines the chain of command. Unification of the duties of the two commands in Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command clarifies and advances the process of providing a primary advocate and representative for Fleet personnel, training, requirements, maintenance and operational issues.
