PACIFIC OCEAN (Nov. 14, 2006)  The nuclear-powered attack submarine USS ASHEVILLE (SSN 758) steams out in front of the of the aircraft carrier USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63) carrier strike group and ships of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) during the U.S. and JMSDF exercise Annual Exercise (ANNUALEX) 2006. ANNUALEX kicked off Nov. 9 and included more than 85 JMSDF and 13 U.S. ships and submarines, plus dozens of air wing and shore-based aircraft. About 8,500 U.S. personnel took part. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
