Air Force B-2 Spirit, B-1 Lancer, and B-52 Stratofortress, bombers expended more than 80 percent of the tonnage dropped on combat missions over Afghanistan to date. A 93rd Bomb Squadron B-52 bomb load crew uses an MJ-1B Munitions Loader to position a 750-pound unguided, general purpose M117 bomb into the bomb bay of a B-52 Stratofortress for a bombing mission over the Shoalwater Bay Training Area. Both the load crew and the B-52 crew from Barksdale Air Force Base Louisiana are here to participate in Exercise TANDEM THRUST 2001. TANDEM THRUST 2001 a combined US, Australian, and Canadian military exercise for crisis action planning and execution of contingency response operations. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
