A workforce of over 300 Iraqi personnel are involved in the $4.1 million complete renovation of an apartment building in the International Zone, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Gulf Region Central District, on July 8, 2005. U.S. Army and government officials will occupy the ground floor of the 7-story Al Hayat structure in the International (Green Zone) in Baghdad, Iraq, which will feature 42 apartments from 2 to 4 bedrooms each. The 150-day contract was awarded June 8, 2005. The contractor is installing elevators, new kitchen cabinets, appliances, complete plumbing fixtures, and furniture. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA keeps those Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year.
