Straight on shot of US Marine CPL Carlos Delacruz, from the 3rd of the 11th Marines, Twentynine Palms, California, right, handing out a sticks of chewing gum to the orphans waiting in line for medical treatment. Delacruz was part of the security escort for the trip. The orphanage is just outside of Mogadishu. US Navy and Air Force medical personnel met up with a civilian care group (not shown) to assist in giving check-ups to the children in the orphanage. Once word got out that there was a medical team in town, women from the local area started bringing their children (not shown). The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
