CARY, N.C. (Oct. 19, 2006)  Sailors assigned to the Virginia-class nuclear-powered fast-attack submarine NORTH CAROLINA (SSN 777) participate in a Habitat for Humanity project as a part of Navy Week. Throughout the week, Sailors also passed out NORTH CAROLINA ball caps to children at Duke Children's Hospital, served lunch at an area soup kitchen, and read stories to children at a local library. Navy Week is sponsored by the Navy Office of Community Outreach and is coordinated with local recruiting districts. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA keeps those Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year.
