An E-3 Sentry Airborne Warning And Control System (AWACS) from Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma, is being maintained by her crew on Biggs Airfield, Texas during ROVING SANDS '97. The early warning aircraft will help in the warning of incoming aircraft and missiles. ROVING SANDS is a multinational effort and is the largest military exercise on United States soil that allows training in a joint environment to hone command and control procedures and integrate new systems in Theater and Air Missile Defense. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
