Satellite image taken from the GOES-12 satellite of Hurricane Dennis. The Category 4 hurricane, on the Saffir-Simpson rating scale, with winds up to 135 mph is expected to make landfall late Sunday. The season's first hurricane was rated a Category Four, meaning winds were above 131 mph but less than 155 mph. Forecasters anticipate significant strengthening prior to landfall. In addition, a hurricane watch remains in effect for portions of central and eastern Cuba. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA keeps those Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year.
