On Saturday, Feb. 5 just after noon, an exploding mortar round hit the Markale market in Sarajevo killing more than 63 people and wounding 206 others. At the request of the United Nations, aircraft from Rhein-Main AB, Germany, and the International Red Cross were sent in to Sarajevo to airlift the wounded to Ramstein AB, Germany. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
