A 11,355 L/H Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit (ROWPU), from the US Army National Guard, 131st Quartermaster Detachment (Water Purification), 136th Quartermaster Battalion, Grand Forks, North Dakota, purifies water. The clean water will then be distributed throughout Grand Forks, North Dakota to people returning to their homes after the Red River flood. Many of the people returning to their homes do not have running water or electricity. The water purification unit has cleaned over one million gallons of water and is one of six units in the area. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA keeps those Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year.
