Sailors and US Coast Guard District 5 Law Enforcement Detachment personnel approach a 30-foot, single-masted sailboat in a motor launch from the dock landing ship USS WHIDBEY ISLAND (LSD 41).  The sailboat, which was dead in the water when it was detected by the WHIDBEY ISLAND's radar, in the Caribbean Sea is carrying 92 Haitian refugees.  The refugees were taken aboard the WHIDBEY ISLAND and later transferred to a Coast Guard cutter. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA keeps those Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year.
