US Navy (USN) Admiral (ADM) Michael G. Mullen, Commander, US Naval Forces Europe, speaks to Construction Battalion (SEABEES), assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 4 (NMCI-4), on board Camp Mitchell, Rota, Spain. During a routine visit to Naval Station (NS) Rota, USN ADM Mullen thanked the SEABEES for their hard work, especially in the Iraq area of operations. He also answered questions about the important future role of SEABEES, downsizing of US Naval forces in Europe, uniform changes and the war on terrorism. An 11-year old Indonesian boy sleeps in a hospital bed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) aboard the Military Sealift Command (MSC) Hospital Ship USNS MERCY (T-AH 19). The boy was found floating in the ocean two days after the Tsunami struck his home of Banda Aceh on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. Shortly after MERCY arrived on station off the coast, the boy was flown to the ship to receive treatment for an acute case of aspiration pneumonia. He is expected to make a full recovery. The MERCY is currently off the waters of Indonesia in support of Operation UNIFIED ASSISTANCE the humanitarian relief effort to aid the victims of the Tsunami that struck Southeast Asia on December 26, 2004

The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA keeps those Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year.
