Liberty Island, N.Y., July 4, 2013 --Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell cuts the ribbon to officially reopen the Statue of Liberty after Hurricane Sandy flooded the Island in October 2012. Although the Statue itself was not harmed by the storm, the infrastructure suffered major damage and underwent eight months of repairs. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
