A Landing Vehicle Tracked (Mark II), LVT-2 that was left after the Battle of Peleliu during World War Two on the island of Peleliu. Photograph taken as part of Exercise KOA THUNDER 2001. Marines from Aviation Support Element, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, 1ST Marine Air Wing, Okinawa, Japan, and 3rd Marines 7th Battalion 29 Palms, California, participated in KOA THUNDER on the island of Guam from July 9 to July 14. The purpose of the exercise was to demonstrate the Marine Corps ability to deploy in the South Pacific from places other than Okinawa, Japan

A Marine waits to roll out in one of four Light Armored Vehicle Air Defense (LAV AD) amphibious vehicles in front of the Thunderdome at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
