TSGT Ryan acted as chief of supply while assinged to the UNSCOM (United Nations Special Commission), and descirbes the harsh conditions and uncooperativeness of the Iraq people during site inspections in AIRMAN Magazine/July 1999 - Article "Iraq Bivouac", by TSGT Pat McKenna. TSGT Ryan also depicts life in Bagdad and the conditions for the locals. He closes the article with how proud he is to be an American and how we take for granted the opportunites we have here

Colonel Joe, as friends call him, continues to fly high, barnstorming across the country with his wife, Sherry, in an open-cockpit biplane. US Air Force Colonel Joe Kittinger Jr.'s career was highlighted in the December 1999 issue of AIRMAN Magazine. The story titled "Leap of Faith, describes Colonel Kittinger's historic balloon flights and his world record free fall from a balloon at an amazing 102,800 feet. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
