These Marines are Shoulder-Launched Multipurpose Assault Weapon (SMAW) gunners, with the 2nd Squad, India Company, 3rd Battalion, 1ST Marines and have been said to have fired the most SMAW rockets during a single operation in Marine Corps history.  Combined Totals are 79 rockets fired during Operation Phantom Fury.  Operation Phantom Fury is in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II and that will beef-up Security and Stabilization Operations (SASO) in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt.
