Former EF-111 "Raven Pilot", CAPT. Clyde Beattie does a preflight inspection of his U. S. Navy EA-6B "Prowler" at Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island, Wash. As a result of the Navy, Air Force and the Secretary of Defense's decision to consolidate the airborne threat radar jamming mission, the Air Force is drawing down the EF-111 Raven and joining forces with the Navy to stand up five squadrons of EA-6B Prowlers. The subsonic Prowlers, a Vietnam vintage aircraft, with 1970's avionics, 1980's warfighting hardware, 1990's software and carrying Mach 4 speed HARM missiles, will be the United States' sole tactical radar jamming platform. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
